Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario - Ottawa, ON

The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario or CHEO, specializes in pediatric health care and is also a tertiary trauma centre for children in Eastern Ontario, Nunavut, Northern Ontario, and the Outaouais region of Quebec. It is one of only seven Level I trauma centres for children in Canada. There are CHEO satellite services located throughout Eastern Ontario and partners with organizations in larger catchment areas of Nunavut, Northern Ontario and Outaouais. The hospital serves as many as 500,000 children and youth in its service areas, and sees 75,000 visits to its Emergency Department, 7,700 surgeries, 6,700 admissions, and 180,000 visits to outpatient clinics.

Aside from a specialized acute-care hospital, CHEO also features a Child and Youth Mental Health Agency, a Research Institute, Pediatric Palliative Care Hospice, A School and Preschool, and much more. It also provides a training and education centre for health professionals and currently is training 2,300 in medicine, nursing and other health professions. 3,200 staff work at the hospital to provide pediatric-specialized care.

Along with the General Campus of The Ottawa Hopsital, Caltrio donated their labour for the installation of the CHEO 1 Bench 1 Tree on October 12, 2021. The hospital received only a bench, due to logistics, and was installed 2 metres away and facing an existing grown tree to keep in line with 1 Bench 1 Tree Design Standards. It is important not only to honour frontline workers who work with adults, but those who specialize in pediatric care, and treat the next generation.

Thank you, Frontline-Heroes of Ottawa for your tireless efforts throughout the pandemic. Your service is appreciated and not forgotten!
